BORN UGLY
My infographic is about a girl named Shirley Jane Rutz who's ugly and drinks everyday after she gets dismissed from work at Bill's Grocer. She was so excited for her job and trusted Mr. Anderson immediately. Shir dislikes herself for being ugly since everyone even her sister and her mom hated her. When she gets bullied, no one even dared to stand up for her to Wade and his friends at school. The settings that I picked are the main places where Shir goes. She goes to school, Collier High. She usually goes to MyPlace whenever she wants to have her own privacy, helping her keep everything out of her mind. Mr. Anderson gave her a job as a deilvery girl at Bill's Grocer. She goes back to her apartment after whatever she's doing and starts a fight with Stella. There are a lot of characters in this novel. Shir, Stella, Janice Rutz (Shir's mom), Finlay, and so on. Every character in the novel treats Shir badly, abusing her. There are at least two conflicts and I chose Person vs. Person and Person vs. Self. Person vs. Person is Shir and the other characters. Person vs. Self is that Shir drinks "the magic fluid" which is beer and doesn't get along with anyone. Not even her own family except for Finlay, a boy who intruded MyPlace. For symbols, I chose beer because Shir drinks can after can of beer. She drinks everyday and the beer thing comes up aften in the novel. For themes, I chose the one with a girl getting bullied and someone conforting her because I said that the characters in the novel should not judge by her looks and be kind to her because she deosn't have any friends. I picked the school to represent one of the settings. The girl for characters is a good image for Stella. Last but not least, conflict. The image is the same as the one for themes because there is bullying going on but I chose this image because I wrote down conflict Person vs. Person where Shir gets bullied at school everyday.
I recommend you to read "Born Ugly" because it will tell you what Beth Goobie has been through. She tells you how it felt to be treated like Shir, being abused and had feces rubbed on her face, etc. If you read this book and read the interview questions and answers, you would understand the feelings of Shir and Beth Goobie and the experience they have been through. If you read this book, you will understand that bullying is not nice and standing up for the victim to the bully would make the victim feel happy. You would be able to understand how other people get treated if they are ugly with no one stopping the bullies like Wade and his friends. I think that it's important that you should help the victim and not on the negative side, siding with the bullies and not caring about the victim's feelings. It doesn't matter what they look like. It matters the way they behave, treated like. If you see anyone getting bullied, go and stand up for them. Don't be like the students in "Born Ugly", standing by and watching, not doing anything and thinking that it's fun to watch someone getting bullied or made fun of. Help that person, make them feel like they're part of the world, hang out with them, be friends.
